Dimension - Beat No.5 - Bass cover
Taken from their 1994 second full album ‘Second Dimension’, this is the first track I heard of this sublime Japanese Jazz-Fusion outfit about 20 years ago, a few years after first hearing ‘Casiopea’. Bassist Tomohito Aoki was a phenomenal player; quite Marcus Miller like in his technique imo. The album is a must listen as every track is killer… I may cover some more from this album!

Casiopea - Looking Up - Bass cover
Переглядів 78421 день тому
This was the first Casiopea track that REALLY started a bit of an obsession with the band; I should have covered this years ago but it was only recently that I properly studied the amazing bass line and realised I had to record it once I worked it out. This has been a request for many over the years; thanks to everyone who asked for it and my apologies it’s taken so long! ‘Photographs’ is the a...
Level 42 - Almost There (Live from ‘A Physical Presence’) - Bass cover - Jaydee Supernatural Bass

The opening track to the 1985 Level 42 live album ‘a physical presence’. Probably the biggest influence to my bass playing, particularly in the early years; the energy of the band and the recording still sounds fresh today, I never get tired of listening to this. The outro which starts off with just the bass and drums blew me away when I first heard this 25 years ago and I loved recording to th...
Casiopea - From Over The Sky - Bass cover

Shout out to everyone who has subscribed so far, thank you so much! To celebrate (almost!) hitting 1k subs here’s another much requested Casiopea track, again from my favourite album of theirs, 1983’s ‘Photographs’. The intro to this, is one of the best examples of Tetsuo Sakurai’s magnificent bass playing, he really is an amazing influence to my playing and deserves to be heard by so many more...
Casiopea - Dazzling - Bass cover

Taken from their 1983 album Photographs, this is my favourite album of theirs. Tetsuo Sakurai on the bass is a massive influence and his work is some of the most underrated bass playing still yet to be heard by so many. He used a Kramer bass guitar on this album as well as a Yamaha BB3000. My Jaydee series 1 bass cuts through on this track really well, so it was good fun to play this. A fantast...
Level 42 - Mr Pink (Live from ‘A Physical Presence’) - Bass cover - Jaydee Supernatural Bass

An attempt at the sublime live version of ‘Mr Pink’ taken from one of the three gigs that made up the live album recording of ‘A Physical Presence’, from 1985. The three gigs can be found on YT to listen to in full I believe. GREAT fun to play! Played on my 2023 Jaydee Supernatural Series 1 Classic Bass.
Level 42 - Are You Hearing (What I Hear?) - Bass cover
Переглядів 4,8 тис.4 місяці тому
A cover of this minor hit, single release from 1982 that is the 4th track on Level 42’s ‘Pursuit of Accidents’ album. A fan favourite and one that I saw them play live I believe around the 2015/16 ‘Sirens’ tour; along with ‘88’, these were the two best tracks they played on that tour but the sound of this Jaydee is a closer representation of the original recorded sound. Now that Mark King has g...
Nik Kershaw - Easy - The Riddle - 1984 - Bass cover

I posted a previous cover of this sublime track played on my Status S4000 bass a couple of years back and it sounded half decent… so since acquiring the Jaydee I thought I’d give it another go, as the original I believe was recorded on the same model of bass. Played originally by Mark King of course. Top bass line, top groove, top men 🤣💪💥
Level 42 - Micro Kid - Live at Wembley 1986 - Bass cover - Jaydee Supernatural Series One
Переглядів 2,8 тис.4 місяці тому
One of the missing tracks from the ‘Live at Wembley’ Level 42 gig from 1986, which you can find on DVD and VHS still. Played on my 2023 Jaydee Supernatural Classic Series 1 bass. The tone of this bass is very distinctive, a completely unique sound which is variable but tough to dial in the exact tone to match. A fantastic instrument, a total one off! Mark King’s playing is particularly sublime ...

We Close Our Eyes - Go West - Bass cover

From their self titled, 1985 album ‘Go West’, this is their biggest hit from it… I think. It has some fantastic tracks on it, like ‘Don’t Look Down’, ‘Call Me’ and ‘Goodbye Girl’, perfectly produced, amazing ensemble of musicians and the insanely underrated vocal in Peter Cox… great example of classic 80’s music ❤️🎼🎹🎤🎸

This has to be the best cover ever. Seriously. I just keep coming back to listen - and now even try to play what you're playing its that awesome. You seriously perfected this song and added your own flair, further improving upon its greatness. Please never stop playing as you are genuinely awesome! More Mark King songs would be amazing too! I'd never skip one of your videos, let alone another Level 42 one haha. Can't wait for more bass videos from you!
Cool👍
Personally I think your version is genuinely better it cleaner , crisper and more fluid.. I'm not saying mark king is bollocks my god know... he's a bass pioneer... super impressed...
@@MrSandalwood wow man, thank you for your awesome comment, made my day, cheers 😎👌👊
Where is the solo
😩 glorious!!
ok great now sing over it
Thanks, I can sing over this no problem whatsoever, like most of his lines tbh 👊😎
Mark y Stuart se fusionan!!! Buenísimo!!!
@@davidsegadodemora4516 haha cheers man! Two great players indeed!
Never understood the hype : drumming on a bass.
Awesome
Awesome cover mate! Interesting to hear it with more of a Mark King tone from the Jaydee. I do think you're gonna have to get an Atelier Z at some point covering all these Tomohito Bass lines! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I've had Fifth Demension on replay for a few months now. Its such a bad ass album. Break Out is a killer track, but Tones and Saftey Zone are my favs. Looking forward to seeing what you cover next!
I’m not sure if it’s the tone of the Jaydee or your style but you could be easily fooled in to thinking this was Kinger, or even the whole band playing this if you didn’t know any different. Looks like it’s a killer to play Lee. Awesome
Nice one Lee. Hope all is good.
even tho japan were absolutely leading the way with their digital studios think the 1st shock waves of fusion distant overseas was from Scandinavia aka " Icelandic Funk " Japan have been contenders since at least 1978
tremendous as always mate
Wicked job, man! 👏
You can tell when somebody is heavily influenced by Mark King
You are a superb bass player !!
@@erwin4501 thank you! 👊
Very nice
Cool bass sounds dude !!!
Sir I can talk to you about your social media growth
It must hurt your thumb to hit strings like that
nice 😊
Superb, thank you, got some good tips. Great shed build and T-Shirt! An American Werewolf in London, classic!
Thanks for sharing! Clear vid, nice result.
Beautiful lee love the teeth and the tongue expression on your bass face you were having fun there keep them coming matey ❤❤🎸🎸👍👍❤❤
Real work out this bassline! You played it fantastically! Photographs is one of my favourite Casiopea albums. I really like Dazzling and Spice Road off the album. Nice playing mate, and that's a sweet sounding bass.
If your into your Jazz fusion, checkout DIMENSION. Tomohito Aoki played on a lot of their albums, and he's a killer bass player. He was the bass player for Toshiki Kadomatsu (who I see your covered a number of his tracks!)
@@tekglitch4484 thanks for your kind words man, my next upload is beat no.5 by dimension… if you check my previous videos I’ve also done ‘Jazz Cigarette’… amazing band 😎💥 their second album is incredible!
@@LeeTavMusic I've just subscribed! I'm going to take a look through your past uploads. Keep it up man 👍👍
Didnt Mark King use that style of bass back in the day?
@@DuffTV certainly did! It’s a replica of the 0003SA model used to record the first few Level 42 albums and played live until about 1985 🙌💪 thanks for watching 😎👍
Lovely bass, sadly the luthier John Diggins passed away last year. I have similar bass made by John, GA24 it’s awesome One of my biggest regrets tho was selling my Hayman 4040😢 Great video 👍🏻
I live in Japan, I am an Ex-pat and I have been a fan for years they are by far THE MOST underrated band ever on the Jazz-funk scene, the majority of Japanese I know never heard of this band and even when they listen, they are surprised that a Japanese band plays this funky. Sakurai is a beast in his own right, I too, love to listen to the old nostalgic music. Japan for the most part with the J-pop craze is just crap IMHO, my kid loves it, but all the music from the late 70s and 80s in Japan is just tight as hell. Thanks for bringing this piece back to life, glad there are people outside of Japan that love their music! Keepslappin! :)
nice tight sound ,, fantastic intervals, transition points great recording level .. technical , think this goes into mark king could have slipped away into the world of advanced fusion, yet somehow stayed loyal to the soul boy Chris Hill "all dayer" type origin of level 42 what bass it that lee ?
@@bean9seventy hey! It’s a Jaydee Supernatural Classic Series 1 💥👌 thank you for your kind words as always bro! 🎸🥳
@@LeeTavMusic looks like a stanley clarke, bass, twin octave+ Olympic ;D i don't know much about gear yet Brit Funk 1976- with exception by default of a few, was a anti Fender area- basically a very early prototype of these kinds of basses is a bass called "Dan Armstrong" another bass was the custom built Kramers " the best has to be the Hayman 4040 ,, Mark King working in a shop put it all together & made, or found a bass with all of these qualities . & obviously more cheers lee
Just wanted to say thsi video popped up on my feed because I've been listening to a lot of Louis Cole lately and like bass covers, started listening and thought "... i recognise this guy," and I had a sudden vivid flashback to about fifteen years ago watching you slap on Super Mario and Sonic themes and loving it. So glad to see you're still fighting the good fight, much love and respect.
@@1Meursault1 mate what a lovely comment, thanks very much man, have a great rest of the week! 👊
Great playing and sound of an awesome song 🤙
Flawless victory
@@bengillam8024 haha cheers bro 👊
I''ve learned a lot of the King's solos but is one i've never been able to figure out. Can you play it by yourself without the music and maybe a tad slower so we can see what you're doing?
Absolutely 👆👌
Super cool, you nailed it 🎸 😊 This concert tour in 1985 was L42's peak in fusion pop funk, to me. Though they had some interesting song in later years, too, this was really their hottest time 🔥 So, if you could please bass cover the entire live album 😂
Boom! Smashed it mate, take a bow👏
Very nice job. It's a lot to remember. My flatmate used to play bass with same washburn guitar and Trace Elliot gear and play along to Mark King. Great days. ( I think I'm remembering correctly)
Watching you play this Lee, I can see there’s some similarities to the Mr Pink bass line. Smashed it fella 👍
shock contender ,, in full flight doing it too nice one man
Haha you legend, cheers my friend 👌💥
@@LeeTavMusic hehe ,, thanks lee man , hey? what kind of bass is that ??
Love it! I know this song (album!) off by heart and you nailed it! Well done 👍
Glad it was a good take my man 😎🙌 I should have worked it out a long time ago tho 😂
What a track this is, well done!! 👏😎
Cool as always !!
Love it lee keep them coming son 👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍
Cheers Ray! 👊💥
Fire cover! Keep it up
Its just a basic bass line but the thing is mark king plays it fast 😅
Amazing skills 👏
Wow, this is a great cover. Keep it up ;)
I really like how you add your own personality to the cover, specially the chords! Great playing, I wish I had the skills
why not use the sound from the daw? nice job on the cover!
Hey! Thanks for watching… I’m a little confused tho, this is the sound from the DAW? If I’m on the right page of course 🤔
Hell yea! Fantastic! So glad to see this!
That was neat! Amazing cover
